R. I. P. Free Tech Support
WE are all gathered here today to mourn the passing of someone who was very dear to us. Someone who touched all of our lives at one time or another, Especially when that special touch was needed most. Each and every one of us feels that special loss liken to losing a dear friend or trusted confidant. Someone we could always depend on in our hour of need. You all know who I am referring to. . . Our old friend, "FREE TECH SUPPORT." Now mind you, he still on in our hearts for we remember him well. We realize that all those out there trying vainly to represent themselves as tech support are just a shadow of what was his true self. This only adds to the agony of our loss. Every time someone falsely represents themselves as our old friend only cheapens his memory.
What can we do my friends in this dire hour? When all hope is slowly fading away. To we pin our hopes and desires for a stable relationship on our new friends in India and the Philippines. Or do we somehow find solace in our solitary existence. With the only thing giving us hope in our abandoned state is waiting for that hopeful response to our verbose emails explaining our trials and travails. Or are we just setting ourselves up to have our hopes dashed upon the rocks of despair with the response to just "CALL MICROSOFT." Where will the fates take us next? Will BILL GATES declare himself the new MESSIAH a give us what we all hunger for? Or are just falling prey to following whoever comes along promising us a better future, to bring the glory days of when our friend was just a phone call away.
Your not so humble writer doesn't have all the answers to these questions but he does know this "FREE TECH SUPPORT SUCKS." And it is getting worse every day. I will not go on about the obvious rants of the past. Poor language skills, undecipherable phone trees and email only tech support. But the worst is now rearing its ugly head. Not only do we have to suffer the indignities of all the aforementioned things but now Tech Support is getting downright INCOMPENTANT. But thank goodness you have me to help you out. So here's the deal. I'll lay it all out for you and save you all kinds of grief and aggravation.
When you call in for help for your DELL, ACER, HP, COMPACT, GATEWAY or Whatever you will be given THREE choices;
1. Use System Restore to turn back the hands of time to an "Age Undreamed of" where your PC worked flawlessly.
2. If that fails to resolve the problem then use the PC or Notebook restore disks to completely overwrite your life during the last year and put the unit back to that "Just off the Shelf" state. You can figure on not going to Catalina Island for the weekend with the family because you will be spending your time rebuilding your life from your backup media.
3. If both the above fail CONGRATULATIONS! You now qualify for hardware support. You are now able to pack up your unit and send it off to some unknown place where bad little boys go. Be prepared to be without your PC for some time as the little gnomes go to work on your beloved child. Hopefully you will recognize him when he comes home.
That's it! There are no other options. Used to be you would be directed to a download or on a good day they would email you a new driver to install but that now has become too time consuming. And I know because I have to walk you through it from time to time. Nope, now it's just three options. I'm sorry to break it to you this way but its better that you find out this way than having to experience all of the above.
So next time you see me you can thank me for saving you all the grief and aggravation and you can now just do it yourself. Or for a small fee, your not so humble writer would be happy to fix it for you. But I warn you. I may skip the three steps and just proceed to fixing the bloody thing.
